This photograph of the State Dining Room was taken by Abbie Rowe of the National Park Service in 1948 during the Harry S. Truman administration. During his tenure, President Truman oversaw an extensive renovation of the White House during 1948-1952. This photograph was taken prior to the Truman renovation and captures in color the 1902 Theodore Roosevelt
renovation, with oak panel walls and a detailed mantelpiece with American bison carved into it.
