Under Mrs. Hoover's direction in 1930, the White House Rose Drawing Room became the "Monroe Room." Reproductions of French furniture ordered by President Monroe stand against rose-colored walls in this photograph. Mrs. Hoover had a great interest in recreating the historic interiors of the White House.

In the 1960s, First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy oversaw the task of restoring the White House interiors and thus founded the White House Historical Association to enhance the understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of the Executive Mansion.
