First White House Christmas Tree
President Benjamin Harrison’s White House 1889-1893. In this new illustration, artist Chuck Fischer has created a colorful rendering of the first White House Christmas tree surrounded by gifts for the grandchildren of President Benjamin Harrison. Placed on a table in the upstairs Oval Room, its branches were adorned with lit candles and other ornaments. First Lady Caroline Harrison helped decorate the tree, starting what would become a holiday tradition at the White House. Greeting inside: “Season’s Greetings.” 16 cards with envelopes. 5" x 7"
