2009 Christmas Card

The first White House Christmas Tree to be illuminated by electric lights is seen through the tall window of the second floor Oval Room, just beyond the columns of the South Portico, during the second presidency of Grover Cleveland (1893 to 1897). This modern watercolor rendition by artist Chuck Fischer recreates the view of the large tree from the South Lawn during an evening snowfall with guests gathered on the portico outside of the Blue Room. The Christmas tree was an important part of the holiday celebrations for President Cleveland’s young family. An embossed gold oval frames the White House artwork and silver flakes adorn the card’s border. Greeting inside: “Holiday Greetings.” 16 cards with envelopes. 5" x 7"
