President Theodore Roosevelt Bookmark

President Theodore Roosevelt took office in 1901 following the assassination of President William McKinley. He moved his large active family to cramped quarters in the White House. It was during his presidency that the West Wing was built; it provided efficient workspace for the president's staff separate from the family's living space. The portrait that inspired this bookmark hangs in the East Room on the State Floor of the White House.
