Title: Oil Portrait of Chester A. Arthur

Description: President Chester Arthur, who thought the White House outdated, attempted to convert the house into office space and build a completely new presidential residence on the grounds nearby. The White House, however, was such a nationally recognize landmark that opposition arose to his plan forcing him to abandon it. Instead, Arthur hired Louis Comfort Tiffany to completely redecorate the mansion in the style he preferred.
