Title: Center Divan
Description: In 1860 Harriet Lane ordered nineteen pieces of furniture for the Blue Room to replace the furniture chosen by President James Monroe. This center divan, or couch, is blue and gold and in the French style popular in the mid nineteenth century. A gold vase or potted plant sat on the center ledge. The new furniture remained in the Blue Room until 1902.
