Title: Barbecue on the White House West Terrace

Description: When the Japanese Prime Minister visited the White House in May 1979, a barbeque dinner was held on the West Terrace, which connects the historical mansion to the West Wing. President and Mrs. Carter were not the first to entertain on White House rooftops. The tradition was started by President and Mrs. William Howard Taft.
