Picturing the President's House: DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER

graphic detail

Title: Oil Portrait of Maime Geneva Doud Eisenhower

Description: Her interest in using antiques in the White House led Mamie Eisenhower to sponsor the redecoration of the Diplomatic Reception Room in 1960. With a donation of early 19th century furniture, the Diplomatic Reception Room became a Federal style parlor. Mrs. Eisenhower renewed a desire to furnish White House rooms with American antiques from the early 19th century, the period in which the White House was first occupied.

Date: 1959
