Title: Bronze Statue of Andrew Jackson

Description: Commissioned to represent unity in a time of bitter sectionalism, the bronze statue of Andrew Jackson on horseback by Clark Mills graced Lafayette Park by 1853. The four corners of the base of the statue have four Spanish cannons from 1819, when Jackson fought in Florida. Inscribed on the base are Jackson’s famous words, “Our Federal Union. It must be preserved!”
