Title: Funeral of President Harding

Description: During the summer of 1923, President Harding took a train tour of the United States and Canada to promote legislation in Congress. It was a successful grassroots campaign, and the president spoke to massive crowds. On August 2, 1923, in San Francisco, Harding died from a heart attack. The train returned his body to the White House. Harding’s coffin is seen here in the East Room. An honor guard stands at attention, and flowers sent by the American people line the room.

Date: August 8, 1923
