Title: West Sitting Hall, Johnson Administration

Description: A political partner to her husband, Lady Bird Johnson encouraged women to be active in government. She met with several women’s groups, and is seen here entertaining ambassadors’ wives in the West Sitting Hall. What is now the Eisenhower Executive Office Building can be seen through the half-moon window, which casts light into the sitting room and onto Mary Cassatt’s Mother and Two Children, a painting acquired in 1966.

Date: 1966
