Picturing the President's House: WILLIAM MCKINLEY

graphic detail

Title: White House Kitchen, McKinley Administration

Description: Despite mold, poor plumbing, and rats, the White House Kitchen continued to feed its residents and guests in an elegant manner. In this photograph, the kitchen is tidy with its pots and pans hanging overhead and china stored in the cabinet. Other changes to the McKinley White House included the redecoration of the Blue Room. Blue silk fabric was stretched across the walls, creating a shimmering effect.
