graphic detail

Title: Blue Room, Nixon Administration

Description: In 1972, the Blue Room was completely redecorated. Wallpaper with blue and gold decorations on the top and bottom replaced the silk fabric on the walls. Blue satin 19th century style curtains with gold trim complemented the French furniture bought by James Monroe. Portraits of Andrew Jackson (right) and Thomas Jefferson (left) were placed between the windows. In front of the windows were two 1810 French statues holding candles.

Date: May 19, 1972
