On the Road: The White House Historical Association fosters the appreciation and enjoyment of White House history through publications, special programs, and traveling exhibitions. Often these outreach activities are created in cooperation with partners, such as the National Park Service, the Smithsonian Institution, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and C-SPAN. Visit the White House Visitor Center in Washington, D.C., attend an exhibition, or catch the world premiere of the play “Unleashed: The Secret Lives of Pets at the White House” at the Kennedy Center in January, 2009. White House history “on the road” may be coming to a venue near you.

WHITE HOUSE HORSES
Fremont, Ohio at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center | September 1, 2009 - January 15, 2010
Throughout history American presidents have appreciated the contributions of horses as workers and participants in bringing about a better quality of life at the White House. Beginning with George Washington's sense of pride and sentiment in his horses to Theodore Roosevelt's "rules governing the conduct of guests riding with the president," to modern day presidents and first ladies seeking relaxation and enjoyment with their equine friends, this exhibit depicts the many ways presidents have enjoyed and depended on these uncomplaining public servants for work, sport and leisure. Exhibition organized by the White House Historical Association.
