Independence Hall in Philadelphia was painted in a London studio by a Danish painter. Richardt had been traveling in the United States in 1858 to paint Niagara Falls. He visited Philadelphia and made sketches of this scene. The streetscape is an all-American view of a place where many great moments of American history have taken place.
