Isabella Hagner was the first official social secretary in on the White House staff. She began working as the secretary in 1901 for First Lady Edith Roosevelt. She held the position with the Roosevelt administration from 1901 to 1909, and continued on into the Wilson administration from 1913 to 1915. Her memoirs tell the comings and goings of the White House in the year 1904.
