The White House Historical Association, a non-profit educational organization with a mission of protecting, preserving and providing public access to the history of the White House, is accepting applications for the full-time position of Director of Marketing. This position reports to the President of the Association, and works closely with the Director of Communications, the Director of Digital Outreach, the Vice President of Retail Sales and Strategy and the Vice President of Publishing.
The Director of Marketing is responsible for conceptualizing, planning and executing marketing strategies in line with the White House Historical Association’s non-profit, non-partisan mission and established branding.
The Director of Marketing establishes and executes promotional plans for the Association with the goal of reaching, engaging and growing existing and new audiences, creating partnerships, and raising the overall visibility of the Association’s mission, retail, publications, events and educational operations. A successful candidate will be results-oriented with a proven record implementing a range of marketing tactics.
The Director of Marketing works directly with Association departments, including retail, publications, event rentals, education, and public programs, on promotional plans for merchandise, events and projects. This role is responsible for creating and implementing comprehensive marketing plans tailored to the goals and demographics of each department while maintaining consistent branding and messaging for the Association as a whole.
This role is responsible for expanding the reach and growing audiences or customers for Association initiatives, including, but limited to:
- The annual Official White House Christmas Ornament,
- The Association’s books and White House History Quarterly journal;
- And events, including:
- Official White House Ornament-focused events,
- A quarterly lecture series,
- A summer concert series,
- 1600 Sessions monthly podcast,
- The White House Experience mobile app and other digital initiatives,
- And others.
The Director of Marketing manages messaging, branding, and the creation of signage, flyers, and paid advertisements to promote the above initiatives, in addition to overseeing direct mail campaigns to over a million households annually.
In collaboration with the Director of Digital Outreach, the Director of Marketing assists in maintaining brand consistency in graphic identity in all digital initiatives including email marketing, Search Engine Optimization and Search Engine Marketing campaigns, and social media advertising.
In collaboration with the Director of Communications and chief consultant for communications, the Director of Marketing coordinates promotional materials needed for messaging and representation of the Association to outside media.
In addition to strategic marketing responsibilities, the Director of Marketing will manage day-to-day department operations, including invoices, contracts, budget, vendor relationships, and interns.
At least five to seven years of marketing experience required. Basic proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite required. Experience working with Salesforce CRM and Pardot strongly preferred. Creativity, strong writing and the ability to work as a team player is a must.
