The White House Historical Association is a nonprofit educational association founded in 1961 for the purpose of enhancing the understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of the Executive Mansion. 

The White House Historical Association offers an unpaid internship within the Collections Management Department in Washington, D.C., for the pursuit of academic credit within a graduate studies program. The dates for this internship are September 2018 - December 2018.

Position Description:

Beginning in September 2018, the selected student intern will begin work at the White House Historical Association (WHHA), located in the historic Decatur House on Lafayette Square. Collections work will include research and inventory projects with the White House Historical Association Collection and the Decatur House Collection. Collections work will further the educational mission of the Association by creating greater access to collections information. As the WHHA Fall 2018 Intern, this individual will have the opportunity to work and interact with professionals at the WHHA as well as the National Trust for Historic Preservation, National Park Service, and many others. 

Julianne Levin, Collections Manager, will supervise the intern. The schedule is to be determined by supervisor and the intern once the position has been offered. 

Requirements:

Student currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree in American fine and decorative arts, history, social-cultural or museum studies; schedule availability during normal business hours (Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm) with some opportunities for evening program assistance (available, but not required); willing to work on multiple projects simultaneously; strong work ethic; highly organized; detail oriented; professional attitude; and a love of history (necessary).
