Educator Night at Nationals Park: Sept. 12

The White House Historical Association and our partner the Washington Nationals invite teachers and administrators in the D.C. Metropolitan area to the second annual Educator Night at Nationals Park to learn about White House at Bat: A Presidential History Challenge. The Challenge asks students in 9th-12th grades to research a decision made by one of the five Racing Presidents—otherwise known as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, and William Howard Taft—while in office. Students are required to use primary sources and present their analysis in an essay and film storyboard. Not only will winning students will have their storyboards transformed into short films by the Nationals, but their films will be played during a game at Nationals Park! This is a great opportunity for students to do the exciting work of historians: selecting a fascinating topic, digging into primary sources, and presenting their work in a new, unique way. In addition, first-place winners will receive a $1000 scholarship, an invitation to a reception at the White House Historical Association’s headquarters at Decatur House in Washington, D.C., and the chance to view their winning videos live on the field at a game at Nationals Park! The teachers of winning students are also invited to celebrate with their students at the winners’ reception and at the on-field launch of their videos, and will win a set of White House History classroom materials!
