U.S. Revenue Marine Cutter Service Steamer "Harriet Lane"

This undated painting depicts the U.S. Revenue Marine Cutter Service steamer, Harriet Lane. This steamer was named after President James Buchanan's niece who acted as White House hostess during his administration. The Harriet Lane was built for the U.S. Revenue Marine Cutter Service, captured by the Confederacy during the Civil War, and eventually recovered by Union forces before the war's end.
