Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exposition

When the Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exposition opened in 1884, the East Room had new furniture, oriental patterned carpet, new curtains, and a freshly painted ceiling. Austria, Belgium, England, France, China, Japan, and the United States participated in the Exposition designed to show off each nation's technologies.
