The near meltdown at Three Mile Island nuclear power plant in Harrisburg, PA on March 28, 1979 spurred one of the largest Washington, D.C. demonstrations since the U.S. invaded Cambodia in 1970, with an estimated 65,000 participants at the Capitol and President’s Park. The event remains the largest anti-nuclear energy rally in the nation’s capital.
