Renovated State Dining Room

Renovated State Dining Room

Creator: Detroit Photographic Company, 1904.

The enlargement of the State Dining Room brought a major change in 1902. The grand staircase was moved to a location east of the central hall. This allowed space from more than twice the number of guests to dine in the room. Dark oak paneling, floral wallpaper, and tapestries decorated the walls. A large stone mantle with carved bison's heads sat over the fireplace, and stuffed animal heads were mounted on the walls.
