Suffrage Protesters in the Rain

Two suffragettes stand vigil in the cold rain in front of the White House. Their commitment to winning voting rights for women meant the White House was picketed frequently, despite the fact that many women were arrested and thrown into jail. On August 26, 1920, the 19th amendment to the constitution was ratified, extending the right to vote to women.
