The Working White House: President Kennedy's Necktie - Photo 1

Left: Necktie belonging to President John F. Kennedy, early 1960s. President John Kennedy wore this necktie while flying to Dallas, Texas, on November 22, 1963. Just before getting into the presidential limousine in which he was assassinated, Kennedy changed ties and placed this one in his jacket pocket. Jacqueline Kennedy told White House doorman Preston Bruce, “The president would have wanted you to have this.” Right: Gloves belonging to Robert F. Kennedy, early 1960s. “It was sad, very sad,” recalled Preston Bruce of the funeral ceremony for President Kennedy. “When we came back from Arlington, Robert [Kennedy] pulled off his gloves and said to me, ‘Keep these gloves and remember always that I wore them to my brother’s funeral.”
