View of the Corcoran house

A late nineteenth-century view of the Corcoran house from Lafayette Park across H Street. Architect James Renwick had transformed the original Federal-style townhouse into an Italianate palazzo for the wealthy banker William Wilson Corcoran. It was Corcoran’s home from 1848 until his death in 1888.
