White House Furnishings: Soup Tureen Detail

This image shows the detail of an eagle finial perched atop a silver soup tureen made by renowned Paris silversmith Jacques-Henri Fauconnier circa 1817, during James Monroe's administration. Both the three-dimensional eagle top and the etched eagle were likely inspired by the design of the Great Seal.
