Markette Sheppard is an Emmy-award winning journalist and host of WUSA 9’s Great Day Washington.

As a lifestyle journalist, Markette has been featured on top-rated national morning shows, including NBC’s TODAY show, ABC’s Live! with Kelly and VH1's morning show Big Morning Buzz Live.

Prior to coming to WUSA 9, Markette hosted a morning show at the FOX affiliate in Virginia. Markette’s first job in television was as a reporter at Prince George’s Community TV in Upper Marlboro, Md. She also served as a reporter for WAMU, the NPR member station for the Washington area. In print, Markette enjoyed a 5-year stint as a freelance health & fitness writer for Time Inc.'s Essence magazine, the No. 1 magazine for women of color in the U.S.

Markette is also author of the inspirational children's book, What Is Light?

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Markette earned her bachelor’s degree from California State University Dominguez Hills. She moved to the D.C.-area more than a decade ago and earned a master's degree in interactive journalism from American University.

Markette lives in the heart of our nation's capital with her husband and young son.
