Stewart Douglas McLaurin, the newly appointed President of the White House Historical Association, a charitable nonprofit institution whose purpose is to enhance the understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of the White House, is a well-respected executive with experience spanning the non-profit, higher education, corporate and public policy fields. Over the past 25 years, McLaurin has held senior positions with George Washingtons Mount Vernon Estate, The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation,the Motion Picture Association, Georgetown University, American Red Cross, and the Federal Government.
McLaurin most recently served as Executive Vice President, American Village Citizenship Trust, a unique national educational institution located on a 183-acre campus in Montevallo, just south of Birmingham, Alabama. Its work is focused on teaching youth Americas legacy of liberty, remembering the price of liberty, and promoting public regard for the Constitution and Americas charters of freedom.
While at George Washingtons Mount Vernon Estate, he served as Vice President and was recruited to consult on the opening of the new presidential library for George Washington. McLaurin conceptualized and created the endowed research fellowships, major program partnerships, leadership programs and enhanced education outreach. He successfully engaged major donors for the library capital campaign, and established national and international relationships on behalf of Mount Vernon. He planned the celebratory and substantive opening season of the library.
McLaurin was the Executive Director for the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation, Ronald Reagan Centennial Celebration. While there, he was responsible for the conceptualization, planning, fundraising and implementation of a multi-million dollar, yearlong program of national and international events and initiatives. McLaurin also served as the media spokesperson for the Centennial. This work was honored as PRWeeks 2011 Non-Profit National Campaign of the Year.
McLaurin served for six years as the Chief of Staff to the President of Georgetown University. He designed and built a successful infrastructure and staff team to support and execute global positioning and engagement of the university with heads of state, international organizations, the diplomatic corps, faith leaders, academic organizations and international business. McLaurin also managed the president's involvement with matters of national policy and cultural affairs.
Prior to Georgetown, he served as Chief of Staff to Elizabeth Dole, then-CEO of the American Red Cross. He directed the operations for the CEO for this international humanitarian organization involving 32,000 paid staff and 1.2 million volunteers. He also served Dole on her Presidential campaign.
McLaurin is a proud graduate of the University of Alabama with a double major in American History and Political Science.
