  • It takes 570 gallons of white paint to cover the exterior of just the residence portion of the White House (center), excluding the West and East Wings. While there is no definite set schedule, generally the paint on the White House is cleaned and touched up annually and recoated when needed, with a full coat being applied approximately every 4-6 years.

First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy envisioned a restored White House that conveyed a sense of history through its decorative and fine arts. She sought to inspire Americans, especially children, to explore and engage with American history and its presidents.
