New York, NY

Today the iconic Waldorf Astoria New York announces a new partnership with the White House Historical Association, joining two pillars of U.S. Presidential history.

Waldorf Astoria New York, which just celebrated 90 years on Park Avenue, is one of New York City’s most significant sites of geopolitical history, having hosted every U.S. President from Herbert Hoover to Barack Obama, high ranking members of the United Nations, and international heads of state. The White House Historical Association, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the history of and educating the public about the White House, will bring that history to life by lending expertise for a first-ever curated library—the Presidential Library, an amenity for residents of The Towers of the Waldorf Astoria. The White House Historical Association will also offer exclusive events and experiences at Waldorf Astoria New York when it reopens.

Each book on the shelves of the Presidential Library will be hand selected by the White House Historical Association’s expert staff of historians. The collection will include their extensive catalogue of published books, as well as rare biographies of famous guests and residents of the Waldorf Astoria, histories of New York City, books covering architecture and Art Deco design, as well as items representing U.S Presidents, many of whom lived within The Towers of the Waldorf Astoria. The Presidential Library also features a private bar where residents can enjoy a curated cocktail menu of favored drinks of every U.S. President as well as The White House Historical Association’s catalogue of every wine served at major White House functions: Wine and the White House: A History.

“The Waldorf Astoria is a significant site of U.S. Presidential history, and it is fitting to partner with an organization that is dedicated to preserving the legacy of another one of the country’s most famous buildings, The White House. Working together with The White House Historical Association, we will honor the Waldorf Astoria’s history while also looking forward to an exciting future of many more historic moments,” said Andrew Miller, CEO of Dajia US, which is overseeing the property’s unprecedented restoration currently underway.

Founded by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, a frequent guest at the Waldorf Astoria, and chartered in 1961, The White House Historical Association is a nonprofit historical and educational organization that plays a vital role in preserving the White House and recording its unique history.

“The White House Historical Association is honored to be invited to share books and resources related to White House history with the residents of the newly restored Waldorf Astoria. This iconic hotel is, itself, an extension of White House history. Now we join together in providing these resources to both residents and visitors,” said Stewart McLaurin, President of the White House Historical Association.

About the White House Historical Association

First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy envisioned a restored White House that conveyed a sense of history through its decorative and fine arts. She sought to inspire Americans, especially children, to explore and engage with American history and its presidents. In 1961, the nonprofit, nonpartisan White House Historical Association was established to support her vision to preserve and share the Executive Mansion’s legacy for generations to come. Supported entirely by private resources, the Association’s mission is to assist in the preservation of the state and public rooms, fund acquisitions for the White House permanent collection, and educate the public on the history of the White House. Since its founding, the Association has given more than $115 million to the White House in fulfillment of its mission.
