The Association is seeking a Director of the People’s House Operations for “The People’s House: A White House Experience.”

The job description serves as a guideline and may not encompass all duties. Tasks may fluctuate based on the role's requirements.

Position Summary

This position will report directly to the Managing Director of the People’s House and will work in close collaboration with the Director of Visitor Services & Experience; the Director of Exhibits; White House History Shop manager. They will supervise the AV/IT Manager and their team; the Facilities Manager and their team; and manage contracts with security and cleaning vendors.

The Director of People’s House Operations will:

  1. Be responsible for the overall smooth operation of the museum’s facilities, security, maintenance, and use of the space.
  2. Collaborate with other Association departments to ensure that necessary technical and logistical support is available when needed.
  3. Manage contracts with all necessary outside vendors, including but not limited to, security agencies, cleaning companies, HVAC repairs, electricians, carpenters, and service providers.
  4. Oversee the security operations to ensure safety for visitors, staff, and exhibit spaces.
  5. Oversee the work of an ensure the coordination between the Facilities Team, AV/IT Team, and necessary contractors
  6. Serve as a liaison between the People’s House and the building property manager, Akridge.
  7. Coordinate physical changes to staff offices located at 1700 Pennsylvania Avenue.

The White House Historical Association is a non-profit, non-partisan educational organization founded in 1961 by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy to enhance the understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of the Executive Mansion. For more than sixty years, the Association has produced award-winning books on a wide range of subjects related to the history of the President’s House and has actively fulfilled its educational mission with robust educational programming and retail offerings.

“The People’s House: A White House Experience” is a cutting-edge education center that will tell the story of the Executive Mansion, its inhabitants and the people who have dedicated their careers to its functions. It will feature exhibits and galleries that bring the White House and its storied history to life. Set to open in September 2024.
