On November 9, 2000, the East Room was the setting for a formal dinner in celebration of the 200th Anniversary of the White House as the home and office of the president. President and Mrs. Clinton and their special guests Lady Bird Johnson, President and Mrs. Gerald R. Ford, President and Mrs. Jimmy Carter, and President and Mrs. George H.W. Bush, gathered to honor the house and reflect on their contribuations to its history.
