In 1938, Steinway and Sons donated this piano to the White House. Musical themes a Barn dance, a cowboy with a guitar, the Virginia Reel, an African American dance, and an Indian ceremonial dance decorate the piano. Mrs. Roosevelt held musical performances in the East Room to encourage the country's interest in music.
In the 1960s, First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy oversaw the task of restoring the White House interiors and thus founded the White House Historical Association to enhance the understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of the Executive Mansion.
