The White House Historical Association will host its eighth annual “White House History Teacher Institute” this summer. Applications are now open for the week-long, in-person immersive education experience featuring exclusive visits to historic sites, introductions to new education resources and technology, and insight from White House historians and former White House staff.

This year’s Teacher Institute features a team of David M. Rubenstein Master Teachers. The Association selected nine teachers across elementary, middle, and high school levels for this exclusive experience. Each of the Master Teachers participated in previous Teacher Institutes and will now lead their own interactive sessions at both the in-person and virtual 2023 Teacher Institute.

“We are privileged to have these teachers return to DC and facilitate meaningful activities and discussions about applying the Institute’s content in the classroom,” said Stewart McLaurin, president of the White House Historical Association.

Participants can apply to participate in-person during one of two Teacher Institute sessions. The first group of teachers will attend The White House History Teacher Institute July 10-14, and the second group will attend July 17-21. The White House History Teacher Institute will take place at the White House Historical Association’s David M. Rubenstein National Center for White House History, located just a block from the White House.

There is also a virtual Teacher Institute option which educators can register for starting on April 3, 2023. The virtual White House History Teacher Institute will be held via Zoom July 17-21.

About the White House Historical Association

First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy envisioned a restored White House that conveyed a sense of history through its decorative and fine arts. She sought to inspire Americans, especially children, to explore and engage with American history and its presidents. In 1961, the nonprofit, nonpartisan White House Historical Association was established to support her vision to preserve and share the Executive Mansion’s legacy for generations to come. Supported entirely by private resources, the Association’s mission is to assist in the preservation of the state and public rooms, fund acquisitions for the White House permanent collection, and educate the public on the history of the White House. Since its founding, the Association has given more than $115 million to the White House in fulfillment of its mission.
