The Three Branches Institute
A Collaborative Virtual Teacher Professional Development Program
In 2020, several historical organizations came together to create a history, government, and civics-focused teacher professional development opportunity examining the people, events, and processes that shape the three branches of government in the United States. The Three Branches Institute is currently hosted jointly by the White House Historical Association, United States Capitol Historical Society, Supreme Court Historical Society, and the National Archives and Records Administration.
In the summers of 2021, 2022, and 2023, these organizations hosted three-day live, virtual programs that were open to any interested educators. These virtual programs offered unique content and perspectives from the partner organizations, lectures, presentations, and access to a slew of free educational resources for classroom and personal use.
Further, all recorded sessions, shared materials, PowerPoint presentations, and more, are available via Padlet:

These Padlets and their materials will remain online indefinitely – so feel free to share these programs, go back and review, or even complete them for the first time and fill out the feedback survey (final column on each Padlet) for the opportunity to receive a PD hours certificate at your own convenience!

Check back here for more information as the Three Branches Institute partners continue to collaborate on an offering for Summer 2024! We’re hoping to bring forward a new virtual program that will be available asynchronously, remixing content from previous years with exciting new presentations and materials and targeting several dates across Summer 2024 for potential live sessions and virtual office hours.
