Chief Usher J.B. West in the Entrance Hall

This photograph of White House Chief Usher James Bernard West seated on one of the French Empire banquettes was taken by Robert L. Knudsen on May 15, 1962 during a military reception. The banquettes were placed in the Entrance Hall during First Lady Jacqueline Kennedys restoration program. West was an integral part of the restoration program, serving as a liaison among the various decorators and advisers and as the right-hand man to Mrs. Kennedy.
