Details on the 1971 Official White House Christmas Tree
This close-up photograph, taken on December 13, 1971 during the Richard M. Nixon administration, shows Christmas ornaments hung on the official White House Christmas Tree. The tree included favorite ornaments created for past Christmases celebrated by First Lady Pat Nixon at the White House, including velvet and silk baubles featuring the name and flower of every state (1969), and gold foil fans created in tribute of President James Monroe (1970). In 1971, gold foil angels were added to the Christmas decorations.
