U.S. Marine Band Performs for 2021 Press Preview, Biden Administration

This photograph of holiday decorations in the Cross Hall was taken by David Wiegold on November 29, 2021 during a press preview of the White House holiday decorations. Members of the United States Marine Band perform in the foreground in front of the official portrait of President George W. Bush, while a Christmas tree topped with artificial snow stands at left. The band members wear face masks as a protective measure during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. For their first year in the White House, President Joseph R. Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden chose the theme, "Gifts from the Heart." The theme was meant to honor the things we cherish and bring us together despite the obstacles posed by a pandemic, time, and distance. Decorations in the Cross Hall and Entrance Hall honored the "Gift of Faith and Community," and featured suspended candles, projected snowflakes, alcove displays, and Christmas trees and garlands decorated with artificial snow and white lights.
